Passion for Success Cyprus launches new Convention Bureau
The formation of the new Cyprus Convention Bureau was announced at a recent launch which took place in Cyprus, where it was explained that initially it will operate as a division of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) with an Advisory Committee made up of the private sector. Parallel to the formation of the Cyprus Convention Bureau is the ‘re-branding’ of the conference product, using the slogan ‘Passion for Success’, which will feature in all future advertising and promotional campaigns.
One of the aims of the slogan is to underline how the ‘passion’ of the industry in Cyprus pervades every meeting that takes place on the island to ensure that each event is both successful and memorable .

Cyprus EU Presidency 2012
Cyprus to take over EU Presidency
Preparations for the Cyprus’ EU Presidency in July are stepping up a gear. In time for this important event, the Cyprus International Conference Centre has undergone a major refurbishment and it will have a capacity of 800. Its first important role will be to host ministerial meetings during the Presidency. This Centre will be a welcome addition to the existing facilities for the C&I sector.
Other prestigious conferences that will be held on the island in the coming months include ‘East Meets West: International Congress and Exhibition on Innovation and Entrepreneurship’, ‘The Society of Economic Dynamics Annual Meeting’, ‘The European Conference of the Thalassaemia International Federation’ and ‘Hotrec’.

Unique Venues

The opportunities to incorporate some of the island’s fascinating ancient sites as a backdrop to activities within a conference and incentive programme add a unique and memorable edge to any event - imagine wine-tasting at the majestic Crusader Castle of Kolossi or enjoying an open-air performance at the ancient theatre of Kourion with the beautiful Mediterranean sea in the background or a presentation in the Temple of Apollo. Modern pursuits can also be enjoyed from award-winning spas, to a round of golf in any of the championship golf courses in the Paphos district. The 6 new wine routes offer the chance to sample some of the superb new varieties of wines in rural settings in the villages in the Troodos Mountains and hills in the south west of the island.

Changing face on the capital
Changing face on the capital
‘Eleftheria Square’, the main square of the island’s capital city, Nicosia, will undergo a total facelift designed by the world renowned architect, Zaha Hadid – the project covering an area of 23,000 sq m will be completed in two years and will also include landscaping to the east and west and underground parking.
A visit to this cosmopolitan city, with its museums, art galleries, cafes and boutiques, is well worth while.

Cyprus meetings increase
Cyprus meetings increase
Latest figures from a CTO survey found that conference events on the island doubled between 2009 and 2010. The most popular months were March, May, October and November which is due to the island’s comparative advantage over other European destinations in terms of its year-round sunshine and mild winter climate. The improvement in accessibility with more airlines now operating flights from many European departure points including several regional UK airports has contributed to this rise.

New Limassol Marina well under way
This exclusive waterfront development is destined to become one of the most elite marina resorts in the Med. The EUR350 million project will comprise a 650 berth marina, which will be operated by Camper & Nicholsons, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious yachting business names. It will combine elegant residences, with an enticing mix of boutiques, restaurants and shops.
This prestigious and highly anticipated project is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2012 and will firmly position Cyprus on the yachting map whilst also changing the face of Limassol.
